Affordable Electric Cars

Affordable electric cars include ZAP electric cars.

Sometimes it may seem that there are no cheap electric cars available, when seeing the latest designs from Fisker Automotive or Tesla.

However, there is an increasing number of cheap versions available.

There will naturally come a day when all the electric vehicles have cheap versions, as the economies of scale kick in the manufacturing process and the price to manufacture one decrease rapidly.

In fact, the construction of electric vehicles is actually far simpler than comparable gas vehicles, due to electric motors having far less moving parts.

Because as of mid-2008, the manufacturers do not expect to sell very many of their cars, the development costs need to be covered by higher sell prices.

These costs will come rapidly down when the sell numbers reach mass market levels.

As anything nowadays, much of the cheap manufacturing comes out of China. There is an increasing number of Chinese manufacturing doing cars, and some have electric car ambitions.

One is from Miles Automotive, and should get 200 miles per charge for around $28k:

Of the existing Western car brands, ZAP offers electric cars for neighborhood use for $10k and under:
