Bad Things About Hybrid Cars
Many of the problems with hybrid cars relate to the fact that this is an emerging sector of automobiles, not an established one. For one, this means that the manufacturing costs for producing hybrid cars are quite high, as the economies of scale have not yet kicked in to reduce the costs per hybrid car. There are also less competition for some of the hybrid car parts that need to be in the car, including the batteries used in the cars, which increase the final costs to the consumer. This means you will likely pay more, sometimes much more for the hybrid car version in comparison to the 100% petrol powered version of the same car. This novelty factor also plays into the maintenance and reliability of the hybrid cars. As the maintenance numbers are less for the hybrid cars, there are also less expertise on the car check up shops for these types of cars, increasing the costs with the maintenance. And, as is the case with any novel technology, there may emerge issues with hybrid cars that have to do with the novelty and reliability of using two engines instead of one. In fact, it is one of the laws of complexity, that when you increase the level of complexity of technology, you are more likely to counter more problems and more complex problems with it. However, one of the counter arguments to the complexity issues is that the electric engine has much less components than the petrol one, and if it breaks, the location of the source for the problems should be easier than for the petrol one.
