Bombardier Electric Car

Bombardier electric car has been under manufacturing since 1996, as a two-seater neighbourhood electric vehicle (NEV).

In July of 1996, Bombardier unveiled a two-seater NEV prototype that has been later seen on organizational use, as the ones with the Montreal Police:

Their NEV runs on an electric motor that runs on rechargeable lead batteries. These batteries are recharged by connection to a typical residential 110-volt electrical outlet.

The vehicle prototype weighed 580 kilograms, had a range of 40 to 60 kilometers and reached a maximum speed of 40 kilometers an hour.

Bombardier developed the NEV primarily to meet the needs of retirees living in U.S. planned communities where automobile circulation is restricted.

Based on that focus, the main markets for the car would be California, Arizona and Florida, where regulations already allow for golf carts and neighborhood vehicles to be used on public roads.

The cost, in 1996 dollars, for the NEV were estimated at US$6,500 to US$7,000.
