CarMax Does Unusual Marketing in L.A.
Carmax, the national car dealership chain, has started an unusual campaign to sell more used cars and announce the opening of new dealerships in Los Angeles.
To promote these efforts, CarMax commissioned 5 artists to paint 5 cars to reflect well-known personalities and traits in the Los Angeles area. One of the hired artists painted a Nissan Xterra with a surfer figure. Another car has Hollywood sites, one car has soccer scenes, another one has urban graphics, and the fifth car was painted with a musical theme. These cars are driven around L.A. as well as used in events for a few months before they are donated to charity. The unusual campaign may have already paid for itself through word of mouth advertising and the positive buzz this campaign has so far received.
