Cons of Hybrid Cars
Cons of hybrid cars include higher purchase price, possible accident safety issues, and possible issues with hybrid batteries.Typically, on a model by model basis, the hybrid version is the more expensive one. In fact, a study of hybrid cars by Consumer Reports revealed that only two of the six hybrids studied made up for their initial cost (Prius and Civic) in the first five years of ownership. In addition to the price, there are ongoing concerns about hybrid batteries. Much of the buzz around batteries are about how long they will last and how expensive they are to replace. Also, there are concerns as to how environmentally friendly the batteries are for the environment, even though they are supposed to be recycled. Bottom line on batteries is that they are very expensive to replace if you do need to do so. Finally, as these are quite new type of vehicles, there have been concerns whether the big batteries are a possible danger in case of an accident. Manufacturers are making the batteries shut down in an accident, but the reliability of these systems is still very much untested in terms of mass market adoption, which is why some emergency crews are getting special training relating to hybrid car accidents.
