Convertible Hybrid Car
Convertible hybrid car options are under development, including a Saab convertible hybrid and a Toyota MR2 Spyder hybrid.Of these, the Saab BioPower Hybrid Concept was introduced at the Stockholm Motor Show in March 2006 as the first hybrid soft-top. The concept car was shown as a 260bhp two-litre turbo BioPower engine and 53 kW electric motors version. BioPower Hybrid Concept for the Saab 9-3 range of cars can at best generate torque values three times greater than its petrol-only equivalent. The hybrid system shown at the Auto Show featured a maintenance-free, 300-volt battery bank designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle, a 38 kW rear-mounted electric motor, a 15 kW integrated starter generator and all-wheel-drive with electric power transmission to the rear wheels. This is not the typical hybrid car, though, as the engine is modified to run on pure E100 bioethanol fuel, and operates with the electrical power system. With automatic transmission, the convertible is expected to achieve 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds, two seconds faster than the equivalent petrol model.
