Electric Car California
California has California has been trying to incubate an electric car industry in the state essentially since 1990, with such initiatives as the California clean air rules that require a certain percentage of the cars sold in the state to be environmentally friendly. Under the Clean Air Act, California has the right to pass auto emissions standards that are tougher than federal ones. However, in 2007, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) denied the waiver California needed from the federal government to make their own set of standards for the period 2009-2016 (and this ruling stands as of April 2008).
