Beyond full electric cars, there are electric engines in hybrid cars as well, working together with gas engine to power the car.

As for full electric cars, they don’t actually have engines. Rather, they have motors.

Engines use a fuel, like gasoline or diesel, that combusts to perform work.

Motors, on the other hand, are used in electric cars, power drills, R/C cars, etc., and use electrical energy (from a battery) to perform the work.

To this end, there are multiple types of electric motors.

Tesla Roadster, for example, which is available for purchase, has an electric motor, which is powered by a 375-volt battery.

Tesla’s electric motor makes 185kw, roughly equivalent to 250 hp.
