New Law Under Works for More Accurate Gas Mileage Testing
According to recent industry reports, the Congress is not satisfied with the gas mileage stickers on used cars (and new ones) that are based on Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) tests.
The current speculation is that the new tests will be based on more "normal" driving habits, where mileage per gallon is determined on a mix of high speed driving, more drastic accelerations and stopping, and more short trips. However, as everyone's driving habits are unique, the EPA mileage per gallon numbers have always been more of an rough guide rather than an accurate assesment of anyone's driving habits in particular. Therefore, it will be interesting to see if there in fact is a new legislation in the works for more accurate mileage per gallon measuring for used cars and new cars and whether such new legislation will in fact be better for consumers.
