Hybrid Car Australia

Hybrid car Australia selection is biggest from Toyota (including Lexus), but also Honda has several models available.

The biggest sellers for hybrid cars in 2007 for Australia were Toyota Prius, Honda Civic Hybrid, and the Lexus 400h.

As Lexus is a Toyota brand, what you really have is two car companies fighting for the highly environmentally sophisticated Ozzie car buyer.

There are several differences between the Honda and Toyota hybrid car engines.

For example, the Honda has an electric motor that kicks in to keep the petrol motor fuel consumption down, while Toyota can also run completely on the electric motor alone on slow moving city conditions.

The Honda, when comparing base models of Honda Civic Hybrid to Toyota Prius, is also much cheaper, and consumes about 0.8 litres less petrol per 100km of driving, according to the Australian Consumers' Institute.
