Hybrid Car Environment

Hybrid car environment impact is through decreased gas consumption, but there are also considerations about the environmental impact of the car's parts, such as batteries.

However, the most environmentally unfriendly of the hybrid car parts, the batteries, are designed to last for the lifetime of the vehicle, somewhere between 150,000 and 200,000 miles, often and typically a lot longer.

In addition, the warranty that covers the batteries is often for between eight and ten years, usually depending on the car maker in question and what type of batteries are covered.

Battery toxicity on the hybrid cars is an environmental concern, even though hybrids do use NiMH batteries, and not the more problematic rechargeable nickel cadmium ones.

Nickel metal hydride batteries can be potentially fully recycled, and according to Toyota and Honda, at least these two companies will recycle used batteries.

There is a phone number on each Toyota battery and a reward for each returned battery that should help ensure that many batteries will indeed be recycled.
