Hybrid Car Fuel Economy

Hybrid car fuel economy rankings are available from the EPA website for MPG rankings.

That website, located at

fueleconomy.gov/feg/hybrid_sbs.shtml

has not only rankings, but also a lot of background material on why to use hybrids and what makes a hybrid 'tick'.

In many ways, the site is reminiscent of

hybridcenter.org/hybrid-center-watchdog-home.html

which is a project from the Union of Concerned Scientists. That website also has a comparison method, one that differs from the EPA website version.

That comparison method, located at

go.ucsusa.org/hybridcenter/compare_chart.cfm

allows you to compare hybrid cars to standard vehicles, with estimates modified to your specific conditions, such as

  • in which type of conditions you drive in,
  • how much you drive,
  • how much you pay for gasoline per gallon, and
  • where you live.
