Here are the rankings for top 22 hybrid fuel efficient cars according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Green Vehicle Guide ratings for miles-per-gallon performance.

The fuel economy estimates provided the EPA present miles-per-gallon City and Highway values for each car and light truck, including hybrid cars.

These estimates are seen on the window stickers of new vehicles and in the Fuel Economy Guide (opens up a new window) published annually by EPA and DOE.

These estimates are meant to be used to compare the fuel economy of one vehicle to another. Naturally, your actual mileage may vary depending on driving conditions.

Vehicles with higher fuel economy save natural resources and create less carbon dioxide–a greenhouse gas–than vehicles with lower fuel economy. According to EPA, every gallon of gasoline burned puts 20 pounds of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

Hybrid Fuel Efficient Cars - Rankings

As EPA tests same model vehicles with different configurations, there are several hybrids of the same model in the top of fuel-efficient car ranking.

The rankings of hybrid fuel efficient cars below are taken from the EPA Green Vehicle Guide, and sorted in the order of combined unadjusted miles-per-gallon performance, which takes into account both city & highway fuel-efficiency.

The list contains only available hybrid cars, and lists the results (as-is) based on all the tested trims (which is why there are several similar entries for a car).
