Plug in hybrid cars organizations include The California Cars Initiative and Google RechargeIT.

The California Cars Initiative

The California Cars Initiative is a Palo Alto-based nonprofit that promotes 100+ MPG plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

Their focus is on both public policy and technology development, and promoting the technology towards increasing buyer demand to help commercialize plug in hybrids.

Their main goal: to get carmakers to build plug in hybrids.

Google RechargeIT initiative

RechargeIT is a Google.org initiative that aims to

  • reduce CO2 emissions,
  • cut oil use, and
  • stabilize the electrical grid by accelerating the adoption of plug-in electric vehicles.

    So far, the initiative has a demonstration fleet of plug-ins at the Google headquarters in Mountain View.

    They are also

  • collecting and posting data on plug-in performance,
  • investing in innovative technologies, and
  • advocating for the passage of important legislation.

    Plug-In 2008 was a 3 day conference in July 2008 that showcased the latest technological advances, market research, and policy initiatives in plug-in hybrid electric vehicle markets.

    The exhibition was one of the highlights of the conference, with, for example, domestic and international vehicle manufacturers specializing in plug-in technology showcasing their latest designs and ideas.
