Concept plugin hybrid cars include the Chevy Volt, Volvo ReCharge, and Toyota 1/X Concept.

Volvo ReCharge

The Volvo ReCharge Concept car is a plug-in hybrid with individual electric wheel motors and batteries that can be recharged through a regular electrical outlet.

Each recharge provides about 100 km of battery power alone before the car's Flexifuel engine is needed to power the car and recharge the battery.

When the Recharge concept car is driven on electric power only mode, the operating costs are expected to be about 80 percent lower than that of a comparable petrol-powered car.

Toyota 1/X plugin hybrid car concept offers a redefinition of the roots to the idea of what it means to be environmentally considerate.

Pronounced 1/Xth, the name is derived from its vehicle mass, fuel consumption and emissions output, each totaling a fraction of that of other vehicles in its class.

Also, the 1/X has an aerodynamic ultra-lightweight design that maintains the interior space of the Toyota Prius hybrid and is approximately one-third the weight of the Prius. This feat is partially achieved through the use of a light but very strong carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) throughout the body frame.

The Chevy Volt plug in hybrid car concept carries the GM E-Flex Propulsion System, which uses a lithium-ion batterywith a variety of range-extending onboard powersources, including gas and, in some vehicles, E85ethanol to recharge the battery while driving.

The Volt is designed to use a common 110–volt household plug for recharging.

For someone who drives less than 40 miles a day, Chevy Volt will use zero gasoline and produce zero emissions.

For longer trips, Chevy Volt's range-extending power source is used to recharge the lithium-ion battery pack as required.
