Pros of Hybrid Cars

There are several pros of hybrid cars, including being friendly on the environment and on your wallet.

Many of the advantages involve the cars' unique hybrid engine, which is a gas or diesel engine combined with an electric motor.

Fuel savings are enabled by the fact that the engine runs on constant speed as acceleration of hybrids is assisted by batteries.

The energy that is used by the batteries is captured by the hybrid system from kinetic energy as you slow the car down by using brakes.

All this leads to the most efficient miles-per-gallon performance you'll find in cars today, as measured (yearly) by the Environmental Protection Agency.

In fact, top seven most environmentally-friendly cars in the EPA's Green Vehicle Guide for 2005 are hybrids.

The hidden benefit from the great miles-per-gallon performance is the time saved by not going to the gas station.

Depending on how you value your time, this benefit can be substantial.

Pros of Hybrid Cars - Environmental Pros

Much of the benefits of hybrid cars are environmental, due to the lower gas consumption and due to fewer hazardous exhausts from the car.

Any non-oil producing nation will also benefit from having hybrid cars by being less dependent on other countries' oil production.

These benefits on the society at large have prompted many countries to give tax breaks and other incentives for people to buy hybrid cars.

Pros of Hybrid Cars - Technological Pros

In terms of technological automotive pros, there are several related to hybrid cars.

For one, having an electric motor boosts acceleration performance.

Regenerative brakes recapture energy, to recharge the battery.

Thus, no battery plug-ins are required.

Also, driving performance is optimized because both the gas engine and electric motor are working for you.

On top of all the hybrid car technology benefits, you also get all the conveniences of conventional vehicles: spacious seating, storage room, creature comforts, and extended driving range.
